BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that spectators will not be allowed inside the stadium during the three-match T20 series between India and West Indies at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. The Bengal government had recently allowed 75 per cent spectators to enter the stadium and was welcomed by the Cricket Association of Bengal. But now the BCCI's decision may leave the audience disappointed. Earlier, the Gujarat Cricket Association also confirmed that due to the dangers of Kovid-19, the three-match ODI series between India and West Indies to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will be played without spectators.
"We are not allowing spectators to enter the Eden Gardens for the upcoming three-match T20I series," Ganguly told NDTV. There will be no tickets for the general public. Only CAB officials and representatives of various units have been allowed. At this time we cannot put the health of the players at risk by allowing spectators. The West Bengal government has allowed spectators to go to the stadium, but BCCI does not want to risk the health safety of the players.
Let us tell you that recently eight members including support staff in India's senior team were found to be Corona positive and then after that Mayank Agarwal and Ishan Kishan were added to the ODI team. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rituraj Gaikwad and Navdeep Saini are among the players who tested positive recently and are currently in isolation. The T20I series matches will be played in Kolkata on 16, 18 and 20 February.
