Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has spoken about the possibility of starting a women's Indian Premier League, saying that 2023 would be a very good time to start a full-fledged women's league. He has also said that the women's league will be as big and grand as the men's IPL.
The BCCI has been organizing the Women's T20 Challenge, in which 3 teams were included in the T20 tournament. The Women's T20 Challenge was not held in 2021 even as the BCCI hosted IPL 2021 in two halves amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Many Indian women cricketers like Jemima Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana had raised their voice for the introduction of women's IPL.
Sourav Ganguly said, "We are at the stage of having a full-fledged women's IPL. It will definitely happen. I believe next year means 2023 will be a very good time to start full time women's IPL which will be as big and successful as men's IPL.
